Board Meeting Minutes
October 13, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by John Hosler, president, at TGI Fridays.
Board members attending were John Hosler, Ron Nowak, Barbara Fisher, John Clegg, Dick Kesler, Freddy Cernuto, Jack Coe, Joanne Langella, Susan Howard, Barry Hinken, Bill Lagana, Russ Sobczak and Karl and Kathy Sterner. Members attending were Lucy Kesler, Barbara Coe, and Barry Bracken.
The board members had previously received the secretary’s minutes by email. Freddy Cernuto moved to accept the minutes: Russ Sobczak seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s report - John Clegg handed out copies of the revised 2004-2005 budget. Barry Hinken moved to accept the treasurer’s report; Bill Lagana seconded the motion. The treasurer's report was accepted. All the signature cards have been signed for SunTrust Bank. The signers are now the current officers.
Membership - Ron Nowak reported that SCC now has 124 memberships which are 15 fewer than last year at this time. This is probably due to problems with the hurricanes.
Nightrider - Ron Nowak reported that this is set for November and December.
Club Store - Kathy Sterner has volunteered to take over the store.
OLD BUSINESS
IRS Situation - John Hosler is working on a seven year summary to present to the IRS.
Bylaws - When the club status is cleared up and the IRS situation is resolved then the bylaws committee can meet to review it.
Sales Tax - John Clegg reported that at the present time a reseller’s certificate does not make sense for the club because of the small number of sales. He suggested that the club pay the tax to the vendor and not charge sales tax to the customer.
NEW BUSINESS
Charitable Giving - John Hosler had previously emailed a draft for discussion to the board. Russ Sobczak moved that the board accept John’s recommendation and Freddy seconded the motion. The motion passed. John Hosler asked if the board wanted to donate money immediately to the Martin & St Lucie County Hospice. John Clegg moved that the club donate $250.00 and Barry Hinken seconded. The motion passed .
Newsletter Insert Pricing Policy- John Hosler stated that all the chambers with whom he has worked charge for inserts in their newsletters and recommended that the club do the same. Russ Sobczak moved that the club charge $35.00 per issue for inserts for members and $50.00 for non-members. John Clegg seconded it. The motion passed. John Hosler and John Clegg will work on a one line disclaimer to put on the bottom of the newsletter in the Advertise Here section.
Storage Cabinet- John Hosler suggested buying a storage cabinet to place at ASK Auto for centralized storage of SCC supplies. John Hosler made a motion that the club buy the cabinet and pay ASK Auto $100.00 per year to keep it on their premises. Bill Lagana seconded the motion. The motion passed. If it is determined that we need more space the club will purchase another cabinet at a later time,
Banners and Flags-For the purpose of club identity John Hosler wants to take inventory of the club’s banners and flags and to replace the ones that are obsolete or damaged. John Hosler will get information about telescoping flag poles with Corvette Racing & SCC insignia.
Technical Events- John Hosler asked for board members to volunteer for a committee to set up technical events. Jack Coe, John Clegg, Karl Sterner Ron Nowak, Russ Sobczak, Bill Lagana and Freddy Cernuto volunteered. Kristie Clegg will put a notice in the next newsletter asking members to volunteer.
Jack Coe will be getting information for an event to be held at Moroso this year with a date to be determined. There will possibly be another one in Jan., 2005.
Car Show Meetings- The scheduled dates for these are October 27th at 7:00 PM, Nov 10th at 7:00 PM and Nov. 17th at 5:30 PM before the board meeting.
Leadership Committee- John Hosler suggested that we have a leadership committee which will meet every other month when the board is not meeting to deal with some matters so as not to bog down the board meetings. The committee will consist of the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and the past president. It would be open to anyone else who wants to attend.
PRIOR EVENTS
July 24th Stuart Lanes Bowling - Kathy Sterner reported that it went well and recommended that the club do it again next year,
August 8th Island Dunes Brunch & Swim- Susan Howard reported that 65 members and guests went and had a great time. She suggested that the club repeat the event next year either there or look for other places.
August 11th Board Recognition Dinner - It was very enjoyable.
Sept. 18th Golf World - Freddy Cernuto reported that about 40 members attended.
Oct. 2nd Second Annual SCC Golf Tournament - Barry Hinken reported that 7 members attended. He may organize another one in May.
UP COMING EVENTS
October 30th Halloween Party - This event has been changed to the home of John and Kristie Clegg at 8:00 PM..
Nov. 14th Thanksgiving Picnic - Barbara Fisher reported that the event will be at the home of Kay and Gil Russe. Bill Lagana will take care of ordering the food. Jack Coe will take charge of leading the group from Blockbuster on US 1 in Pt St Lucie leaving at 11:00 AM. Everybody should bring their own beverages and lawn chairs. We will eat at 12:00 Noon. John Hosler will call Walt Korbut to request that Walt’s son, Kent, be the DJ for the afternoon for a fee up to $200.00.
Dec. 11th Christmas Party Barbara Coe reported that the party will be at the West St. Lucie Elks Club. The cost will be $10.00 for members and full cost for additional guests (if room is available). $250.00 can be spent on incidental items such as decoration.
Corvettes of Okeechobee Lake (COOL) sent the Stuart Corvette Club a participation award .
John Clegg moved that the meeting be adjourned; Jack Coe seconded the motion. The motion passed. John Hosler adjourned the meeting at 8:40 PM.
